Modus Operandi
The general modus Operandi for committing UPI fraud is provided below :
Step 1 > fraudsters usually call their targets frequently impersonating as bank official with a request on apparently harmless issue or for basic information verification like name, DoB, mobile number etc.,
Step 2 > the fraudsters try to make excuse of some technical issue in banking app or website, and tell them that the problem can be resolved only by giving some personal information. In this way, they take away their information.
Step 3 > Upon convincing the victim the fraudster asks user to download an application like AnyDesk or ScreenShare to resolve some technical issue and get hold of sensitive information and complete access to device.
Step 4 > Once the app is installed with necessary permissions, the caller takes control to steal credentials and uses the victim's UPI account to conduct transactions.
